AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX

 Baku GP 2021 was all sorts of great race that was exciting and thrilling right from the start. The stakes in the race was already high, specially for 7 time world Champion Lewis Hamilton, who was trailing behind Max in the championship, with a wild Ferrari of Leclerc again in the pole position. What followed was what nobody could have predicted(except an underpowered Leclerc getting overtaken by the frontrunners).

Lewis even with the help of DRS just couldnt find a way to pass Checo, which was letting Max get away. But after a dramatic crash of Sir Lance Stroll due tire problems and similarly with the race leader Max getting bummed off the race, the race turned on its head with Checo leading but Hamilton surely to overtake him, in the race restart. Sebastian Vettel also coming off better due to better tires and his midfield overtakes in 3rd position. The restart claimed another driver with Lewis locking up his front wheels while trying to outbrake the race leader which further cancelled out his chances of moving ahead of Max in the Championship leading. The podium on Sunday was refreshing with Checo on top and Vettel back in the podium and Gasly in third.

Baku street circuit, ever since it was first introduced in 2016, has a history of creating amazing nail biting races. Who can forget the 2017 gp when Hamilton and Vettel collided under the safety car and Ricardo’s win with a shoey. Or when Felipe Massa nearly got a podium place had his Williams didnt fail him. The 2018 race when Bottas nearly won the race but couldnt due to his tire breaking apart due to debris in the track letting hamilton win the race.

Part of it can be chalked off by how the track is made with major passing opportunities in almost all corners, and the massive straight leading until the first corner which also has a DRS zone to further aid overtaking. Also the track being a city road that has been repurposed to becoming a racing circuit has many narrow corners which compliments good drivers by being quick around the corners by mastering the braking in corner entry and throttle at corner exit.

Baku also is wonderful to look at with distinguishable corners and straights, amazing location through the heart of Baku. Certainly the reason why Baku is adored by F1 fans all over.
